Scott Schuster at Dirty Rock Off Road Triathlon

Green Member: Scott Schuster

Event:Dirty Tri

Location:Rockwall

Class (yours):Male 45-49

Results: 4th

Local Knowledge and Conditions: Course Around the Y so well known.  Very short.  Mountain bike made for a neat change.

Pre-Race Strategy & Warm Up: Rode bike to event for warming up legs. Stretched arms before swim.

Psychology: Very short race.  Plan to go red-line for entire event

Lessons Learned (Or Re-Learned): Hartley has magical powers that can disable your bicycle instantly.
Future Goals (include skills executed well and skills needing improvement): Swim felt weak and out of sync at race speed.  Need to work on fast pace swim techniques

Fitness (endurance, nutrition, hydration):  Will work on swim technique at race pace for the next event

Something funny that happened: Everything was going fine.  Did not touch the ground throughout the mountain bike trails (which was a great feat).  Was feeling good to turn out of the woods and knew it was a quick 2 miles to the transition and looking forward to a short run.  Then I saw Hartley standing there like a wounded bird with a wing in a splint.  I think he wove his good arm in the air (maybe with a stick in it like Harry Potter) and suddenly my derailer broke off and chain broke.  I had nothing on rear of bike but gears. So I had no choice but scoot the rest of the way.   I did lower my seat and found a great rhythm doing the Barney Flinstone shuffle to the transition.  Got some real funny looks from some folks while shuffling into transition only to find that my legs were pretty much spent for the run.  At least their was no snow!!!!
