Peter Barnard @ Iron Brothers Sprint

Green Member: Peter Barnard

Event: Iron Brothers Super Sprint

Location: Joe Pool Lake

Class (yours): M45 - 49

Results: 2nd age group / 11th overall

Local Knowledge and Conditions: Been racing at this location since the mid 1990's, it's flat and fast. It's hot.

Pre-Race Strategy & Warm Up: Push it to the edge all the way. Run a mile or 2 slowly to warm up, try to get some time in the water as well. A little easy stretching and deep breathing.

Psychology: Just go

Lessons Learned (Or Re-Learned): Always remember they are hurting just as much as you are, you just have to want it more.......it's all in the head.

Future Goals (include skills executed well and skills needing improvement): Could improve mount/dismount time. Need to continue to build my bike strength and ability to hold a fast pace in the run. Will require more threshold rides and more time on the track. Continue to build up endurance with a mind to returning to pre-injury level

Fitness (endurance, nutrition, hydration): I make sure I am hydrated prior to start but for a race that takes around an hour there is little time to worry about nutrition.

Something funny that happened: Not sure if it's funny but after passing through the first 2 miles on the bike and climbing up to the dam I was wondering why it seemed so easy to turn in such a big gear until I looked down and realized I was in my small chain ring. Goes to show that you should always check details of your set up before the race to avoid silly mistakes that can lose you time.
